Day 01: Depart USA for Malaysian Borneo.  View map of Borneo.

Day 02: Continue travel, crossing international dateline.

Day 03: Arrive in Kuching airport noon.

Meet guide and transfer to Hilton for check in. City Tour: discover the charms of this riverine city - buildings dating back to the days of the White Rajahs, ancient Chinese temples, & colorful markets displaying the jungle produce that first brought traders to Borneo.
Welcome Dinner at Hotel & welcome drink at waterfront pub. (D)

Mother & child of the Malaysia RainforestsDay 04: Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre - Bidayuh Longhouse - Crocodile Farm & Kuching City.

Semenggoh, one of four orangutan rehabilitation centers in the world, provides a rare opportunity to observe semi-wild orangutans up close and personal in their natural habitat. Proceed to a peaceful Bidayuh village, where you can learn about their culture, once headhunters. Visit the baruk (head house) where skulls can be seen. Proceed to a Crocodile breeding farm and mini-zoo that include birds and animals endemic to Borneo. In the late afternoon, continue your walking tour of Kuching, making a stop at the Sarawak Museum with an excellent collection of Bornean ethnological and archaeological artifacts - reputed to be the best in Southeast Asia. Day 05: Free Day - A variety of options are available for your enjoyment including rainforest treks (leisurely or challenging).
Within walking distance of your hotel you will find a multitude of shops carrying native crafts and 22K gold jewelry, and a wide variety of museums. You can choose to enjoy the amenities of your luxury hotel, relax at the waterfront promenade across the street, or explore the city. (B)

Typical Iban Longhouse in the Malaysia rainforestsDay 06: Kuching - Iban Longhouse Visit
Longboat excursion for a visit with the Iban (also a former head-hunting tribe) at their traditional Longhouse in the rainforest. This trip is an adventure in itself. Proceed by longboat upriver to the Longhouse. Settle in at a jungle lodge across the river from the longhouse. Relax on the ruai (common verandah) and spend time with the Iban people, ancient Rainforest dwellers. Learn about their culture and enjoy some Tuak (local rice wine.) Woven blankets and handicrafts are available for display upon request and may be purchased directly from the longhouse people. Overnight lodge. (B,L,D)

Day 07: Following breakfast, take a longboat ride to a scenic waterfall in the heart of one of the Malaysia rainforests.
River transportation through one of the Malaysia rainforestsTime to relax, explore the jungle trails along the river or try fishing Iban-style.
Return to the longhouse for another visit with the residents. Dinner and overnight jungle lodge. (B,L,D)


Day 08 : Longhouse - Kuching.

Swim or trek prior to late morning departure by longboat. En route visit a jungle school serving children from the surrounding villages. Proceed to Kuching for late afternoon arrival at your hotel. (B,L)

Day 09: Satok Market & Fairy Cave, Bau - Damai Beach Resort

Sunday market In the morning, depart for the Satok Market. Fascinating array of goods on display include handicrafts, forest produce, orchid plants, pets of all descriptions, live fish, and a whole range of exotic delicacies. The limestone hills surrounding Kuching offer a fine selection of caves. We will visit Fairy Cave which has interesting rock formations. Return to Kuching, pick up luggage and transfer to Holiday Inn Damai Beach Resort or Nanga Damai Luxury Homestay for check in and overnight. Enjoy the beach or pool. Dinner on your own at one of several excellent local seafood restaurants. (B,L)

Day 10: Damai Beach & Sarawak Cultural Village.

Situated at Damai Beach is the Sarawak Cultural Village. Share in the arts, crafts, games, foods and music of the seven major cultures of Sarawak. After touring the village enjoy a multi-cultural dance performance in their own theatre. The afternoon is free at leisure to relax & enjoy the pool or beach, or to participate in optional tours for snorkeling, or spotting wildlife while sailing through the mangrove forest. Overnight at Holiday Inn Damai Beach Resort or Nanga Damai Homestay. (B,L)

Day 11: Damai - Bako National Park.Malaysian proboscis monkey

In the morning, depart for Malaysia's Bako National Park. Bako is one of the best places in Sarawak to see animals in the wild. The endangered proboscis monkey, found only in Borneo, is the most significant animal that can be seen here in its natural habitat. The boat ride to the park is an adventure in itself! Swim in the warm water of the sea. Overnight park chalets. (B,L,D)

Day 12: Bako National Park.

Unlike most tours that only give you a few hours here, you will have a full day to pursue your interests: if wildlife is your thing, watch proboscis monkeys come into the mangrove forest to eat, bird-watch, observe the bearded pigs and comical antics of the long-tailed macaques. If you like trekking, there are many trails ranging from 1/2 hr to a full day. Swimming in the warm water of the sea is relaxing and therapeutic for aching muscles!!! Or do a little of everything! Overnight park chalets. (B,L,D)

Day 13: Bako National Park - Kuching.

Take one last hike to the mangrove forest for bird watching and to search for proboscis monkeys. Return to Kuching in early afternoon. Schedule may depend on tide. Overnight hotel. (B,L)

Hilton KuchingDay 14: Free day to further explore the city, purchase last minute souvenirs or relax at the waterfront or the hotel pool. Prepare for early morning flight back to US. (B)

Day 15: Transfer to Kuching airport for early AM departure. Cross the international dateline and return the same day making up for time lost coming here!! (B)
